Year 2 Illustrate Dreamtime
During Term 3 in Visual Arts, Year 2 explored the Tjanpi Desert Weavers and the Mimi Spirits; tall, thin beings who inhabited the earth during the Dreamtime in Arnhem Land in Northern Australia. These spirits were said to have taught the Indigenous people how to hunt, paint and take care of the environment.
Students were tasked with either creating a toy or game made of predominantly natural resources that could be made or played with by an Indigenous student or creating their own interpretation of a Mimi. Year 2 was lucky enough to have an exploration session with Sarah Shields, Pymble’s Horticulturalist, before diving into creating their designs.
