Pymble National Exchange Program

The Middle School National Exchange program allows Year 8 students the opportunity to explore a new environment, build independence and grow new connections.
 
This year, 30 Pymble students have enjoyed experiencing life in different parts of Australia, from Toowoomba to Tasmania and more!
 
Annika in Year 8 travelled to Brisbane for the national exchange program and enjoyed experiencing life in another state and a special bond with her exchange family. She shares her experience below: 

  1. Why did you want to participate in the National Exchange Program?  

I wanted to take part in the national exchange because I wanted to experience different environments so I could see how other people work in a different learning space. I also wanted to do it so I could make new friends that I could create a special bond with.  

  1. What surprised you about life in Brisbane?  

Going to Brisbane was incredible; everyone was so nice and welcoming. It was definitely a different experience, but one that I enjoyed very much. 

  1. What did you find challenging? 

Leaving my exchange family was difficult because they were so welcoming and kind to me, and we created such a special bond, so it was sad to leave them, but it was even more challenging to leave my exchange buddy since we built such a strong friendship. 

  1. Was there a special moment or memory that you will treasure?  

A special memory that I will always cherish is when we went over to her family’s farm, which was a blast. I learnt about the history of their farm and about milking cows which gave me an insight of what it was like to grow up on a farm.   

  1. What have you learned about yourself during this experience?  

I have learnt to be more independent and courageous so I can try new things and become more self-sufficient.  

  1. What would you tell someone thinking of participating in the exchange program in the future?  

If you have the chance to go on national exchange, then I would certainly take it because it is so much fun and you will create memories and friends that last a lifetime!
